Editorial Policy
These are the standards we hold our articles to. We publish them so readers, and the companies we write about, can hold us to them.
Independence
Our conclusions are our own. We do not accept payment for coverage, companies do not see or approve articles before publication, and affiliate commissions do not influence what we write or which alternatives we suggest. If a lower-priced or non-affiliate option is the better choice, we say so.
Evidence and sourcing
We base our articles on publicly available information: owner reviews, retailer questions and answers, product documentation, manufacturer statements and official records such as recall notices. Specific factual claims, such as a recall or a change to a product, are linked to their source. We distinguish clearly between what the evidence shows and what is our opinion, and we say so when the evidence is thin or mixed.
We do not claim to have tested a product unless we have used it ourselves, and each article states what it is based on. Our method is described in How We Review.
Fairness and balance
We report what buyers like alongside what they complain about. Complaints are summarised in our own words and presented as what they are: reports from buyers, not proven defects. We do not quote private individuals by name.
The language we use
We choose words carefully. We write about “reported problems”, “common complaints” and “potential drawbacks”. We do not describe a product or company as a scam, a fraud, fake or dangerous unless there is strong, credible evidence, such as an official recall or regulatory action, and we cite it.
Bylines
Articles are published under the name of the person who wrote them or, where a piece is a team effort, under a team byline. We do not invent authors or credentials.
Advertising and affiliate links
Some links are affiliate links, which may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. They are disclosed on the page. Paid content, if we ever publish any, will be clearly labelled as sponsored. Details are in our affiliate disclosure.
Updates and corrections
When new evidence changes the picture, we update the article and its date. When we make a factual error, we correct it and note the correction. See our corrections policy.
Right of reply
Companies can respond to our coverage through the company response process. We will correct errors of fact, and we may publish a company’s statement alongside the article.
Reader comments
Where comments are open, we welcome first-hand experience of a product. We remove spam, abuse, personal attacks and claims that cannot reasonably be first-hand.
